Ah, rest!

Today is Sunday and we’re finally able to relax and have a lazy day. Yesterday I started feeling so much better (even though I’m terribly congested), so it’s been nice to enjoy it here again! We finished up teaching at Balangombe school which went pretty well, and we’ve all realized that we’ve gotten in to a very habitual schedule!

Last night we had a chance to reflect on our experiences here so far and what we think has changed over the last three weeks. It was really interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts and to think about how I’ve changed personally. What it ended up coming down to, was that this is the reality check about my future. I’ve been struggling here trying to enjoy myself but be professional as well, which is like an internal battle between the transition of college to job status. When I got here, I treated it like a camp setting, where I figured everyone would hold my hand through things when they got really tough. Unfortunately, this is a job for everyone here, and there isn’t anyone to pick up the pieces when you screw up. So it’s been really interesting to look at it that way and guess how it will play a role in the future.

We also had a chance to go out as a group to some local places to mingle and have a good time. We got a chance to see Malawi at night (but don’t drive in Malawi at night!).

All in all, today was a much needed rest day!
